Fine Arts at Pickett County High School
Create. Explore. Think. Discover Your Voice.
At Pickett County High School, the Fine Arts provide students with opportunities to create, communicate, problem-solve, collaborate, and see the world from new perspectives. Through hands-on experiences in art, design, technology, and visual storytelling, students develop both artistic knowledge and the critical-thinking skills needed for success in college, careers, and everyday life.
Students are required to complete one Fine Arts course as part of their graduation requirements. Students who choose to continue their study of the arts may complete three Fine Arts courses and earn a Fine Arts Focus upon graduation, creating a meaningful pathway for students interested in creative careers, college programs, or simply developing their talents and interests.
Our Arts Courses
Art History
Explore the stories, cultures, ideas, and historical events that have shaped art throughout time. Students learn to look closely, analyze visual information, make connections, and understand how art reflects the people and societies that created it.
Media Arts
Combine creativity and technology through graphic design, photography, digital storytelling, animation, video, web design, and visual communication. Students learn to create purposeful media while developing digital literacy, problem-solving, collaboration, and career-ready technology skills.
Visual Arts
Discover the creative process through drawing, painting, mixed media, design, sculpture, and other studio experiences. Students develop technical skills, creative confidence, artistic vocabulary, and the ability to communicate ideas through visual expression.
More Than Making Art
Fine Arts education is about much more than creating a finished product. Students learn to observe, question, experiment, revise, communicate, manage time, accept constructive feedback, solve problems, and make thoughtful decisions.
These are skills that extend far beyond the art room.
Through our Fine Arts programs, students also have opportunities to explore career pathways and real-world applications of creativity, including graphic design, photography, digital media, animation, education, marketing, communications, visual storytelling, studio art, entrepreneurship, and other creative industries.
Opportunities Beyond the Classroom
Students are encouraged to take their learning beyond the classroom through exhibitions, creative projects, community partnerships, performances and presentations, service-learning experiences, competitions, portfolio development, and the National Art Honor Society (NAHS).
National Art Honor Society
The National Art Honor Society provides students with opportunities to grow as artists and leaders while contributing to the school and local community. Through service projects, exhibitions, creative events, and arts advocacy, NAHS members experience firsthand how the arts can connect people, strengthen communities, and make a difference.
Find Your Creative Path
Whether a student takes one Fine Arts course to fulfill a graduation requirement or chooses to pursue a Fine Arts Focus, the goal is the same: to help every student discover how creativity can become a way of thinking, a way of communicating, and a pathway toward the future.
At PCHS, there is a place for every kind of creator.
