FAFSA Information  (OPENS IN DECEMBER)

The deadline for students to summit FAFSA to be eligible for the Tennessee Promise Scholarship is January 31,2023. Any Senior who is planning to attend a post secondary school needs to summit a FAFSA for Federal, Lottery and state grants at FAFSA. This is a free applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA.org).

Community Service

  • October 15 - Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park: We are looking for help with characters on the trail, managing fires, setting up the trail, making decorations, passing out candy, helping with the hikes, and so much more. Contact the guidance counselor, Amber Steddum.

  • High School GPA 3.0/22 ACT Score ( or better). Face to face Interview. Presidential Fitness Test (push ups, sit ups, 1 mile run). Meet basic ROTC enrollment eligibility. Enroll and take basic ROTC courses (3 credit hrs a semester). Maintain a college GPA 2.75.

  • The annual US Senate Youth Program authorizes the selection of 104 student delegates, two from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Office of Dependent Schools. The delegates are immersed in Washington activities throughout a week-long stay, including a visit to the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Supreme Court and the Pentagon. The William Randolph Hearst Foundation pays all expenses for the week- long Washington stay, including transportation, hotel accommodations and meals. In addition, each delegate is awarded a $10,000 college scholarship for undergraduate studies. Information about criteria and applying in Tennessee can be found on the following websites.

  • The Tennessee Governor's School provide eleven challenging and high-intensity programs for rising 11th and 12th grade Students nominated by high school faculty. Students interested in participating in a Governor's Schools program should obtain the application from a high school administrator, school counselor, or other faculty member. Applications for the 2022 Tennessee Governor's Schools will be available  from Sept.1st to Dec.1st 2021. Applications must be postmarked no later than Dec. 1st, unless otherwise noted in the application. For more information: TDOE Governors Schools

  • Students see Ms. Copeland for information packets. Packets are delivered to school by Dual Enrollment Liaisons. The Liaisons often meet with the student groups to discuss the process, and the Guidance Counselors typically distributes the information to the interested students as they are going through the registration process for high school classes. The student must apply online to Volunteer State Community College and print the required paperwork. The paperwork, which also requires a parent or guardians signature,it is then given to the Guidance Counselor for further processing.

    After all the required documents have been received, the Liaisons will collect the information from the high schools and deliver it to Volunteer State's main campus. Staff in the Office of Off-Campus Sites will process the student's paperwork and coordinate with the Offices of Admissions and Records in order to admit the students to the college and register the students for the specified classes.

    Once students have been registered for classes, the Financial Aid Office will then certify the Dual Enrollment Lottery Grant and apply that amount to the students' accounts. Fee Discount will also be applied for those eligible students who submitted the appropriate paperwork.
    The remaining balance can then be paid through the Business Office. Payments can be accepted in person, by phone or online. Payments must be made later than the first week of class. To be officially registered for a class, all steps must be completed, including payment. How to Apply
